From the editor. We often receive letters from readers with the same questions: “Where to start renovating an apartment? Is there a ‘correct’ sequence of work? ” On the one hand, everyone needs advice on how to renovate an apartment, but, alas, no one has yet come up with universal recipes. You can only build on a specific interior and give advice on apartment renovation using its example. We present you a new series of articles “Repair step by step”. The owner of one of the Moscow apartments decided on an experiment: she let the film crew of the 4living.ru website to the construction site. Using this interior as an example, we will show where to start renovating an apartment, what stages and difficulties have to be solved. And we will present you with a detailed photo reportage with comments from professionals. So where to start renovating an apartment ? Definitely – from an accurate measurement of the existing area. The time spent on the study of the apartment will pay off with interest – an accurate measurement plan will facilitate both the work on the design project and subsequent repair work.
We measure the apartment
First along, then vertically. So, you will need a tape measure and a pencil with paper. First, you need to take a measurement from all surfaces horizontally, it is better to measure the walls at chest level. We go in a circle, measuring everything that comes to hand: walls, windows, distances from corners to doors and windows, the width of doorways, risers. After that, be sure to perform vertical measurements: the distance from floor to ceiling, the distance from windows to ceiling and to the floor. Vertical measurements are useful for unfolding walls and arranging furniture. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Draw a measurement plan
Choosing a program. After the measurements have been taken and all the numbers have been obtained, you can start creating a measurement plan. You can draw it on a large sheet of paper by hand or on a computer. There are many different programs with which you can design your home. This is ArchiCAD (the simplest program), and Corel, and AutoCAD. The last of these is the most popular among professionals. We set the scale. To work on a measurement plan, you need to decide on the scale. The most convenient are 1:50 and 1:10, it is easier to calculate. First, we draw the supporting contour of the apartment, then we apply partitions, door and window openings. We note all other elements – risers, plumbing equipment, radiators, water and gas pipes, ventilation holes and other important details of the situation. It is also a good idea to mark on the plan the space required to fully open the windows and doors.
